Jewellery care
Here’s how to care for your favourite pieces of jewellery….
Storing your jewellery individually in a soft pouch, away from direct sunlight, is the best way to protect it from discolouring, as exposure to the air can cause your lovely pieces to tarnish over time.
* We recommend you remove jewellery when bathing, showering or swimming, as water and chemicals can tarnish Sterling silver and reduce the longevity of Rolled Gold / Gold Vermeil (gold plating over sterling silver).
* Avoid contact with perfumes, lotions, hair spray and makeup
* Perspiration can also contribute to the tarnishing of your jewellery so we recommend you remove any jewellery before engaging in any form of physical exercise (ie: gym, gardening, cleaning etc)
Cleaning
Sterling Silver
Sterling Silver is a precious metal that will naturally tarnish over time. This darkening of the metal is not related to its quality and can be removed by cleaning your jewellery.
Use a Silver Dip solution (ie Goddards) to bring the shine back to your jewellery. Then rinse with mild soapy water and polish with a jewellery polishing cloth.
To clean silver jewellery set with gemstones: Gently polish with a jewellery polishing cloth to bring your silver back to its original appearance.
Gold filled
Gold Filled is comparable in appearance to pure gold but because of its composition, it is significantly more affordable whilst still high quality. It will not flake, fade or peel if looked after with care.
Clean by rubbing gently with a jewellery polishing cloth.
Gold vermeil (gold plating over sterling silver)
To be considered gold vermeil, the base metal must be sterling silver and the gold must be at least 10k and 1.5+ microns thick. With a few exceptions, Camarillo uses 18-24k Vermeil over Sterling Silver, with a layer of 2-3 microns. The majority of our necklaces and earrings are layered with 2 microns of gold, and 3 microns for bangles and rings. As a surface finish, Vermeil is subject to wear, and the layer of gold can wear away over time, revealing the sterling silver beneath. This is more common with rings worn on a daily basis. Re-plating your jewellery will bring back its shine.
Gold plate/vermeil jewellery requires extra care.
We recommend warm soapy water and a soft toothbrush to remove any dirt from your
jewellery.
Gently polish your jewellery with a soft cloth (100% cotton or microfibre) from time to time.
Do not use any polishing agents or abrasive compounds as this will wear away the layer of
gold.
